We Are Flying Solo

I Love My Hippopotamus

Especially when he does landscaping, too!  It's Mr. Shiny's favourite part of summer.

Apologies for crappy cell phone vid, interesting things always happen when you don't have the real camera nearby!

  1. He's smart - keeping the buggies off his legs! The mowing is a nice benefit too.

    1. Oh he went for the whole she-bang -- once he plops down the bank, he LAYS DOWN IN THE WATER, be it pond or stream and rolls on both sides. If it's deep enough and hot enough, he'll go out and just stand there with just his face sticking out...like a hippo, LOL. He cracks me up!

    2. Have you considered that he might be part Loch Ness Monster?

  2. How did I not know you were getting a pond on your property? How fun!! That's wild that Solo just wades right in like that. Don't know if I've seen a horse do that before. I guess there's a good way for him to get in and out, clever boy!

    1. Technically, I only own half the pond. I'm not a pond person and did not want one, as they generally are just bug-creators and take up space. However, this particular pond is a very old, very established farm pond built long ago on an ephemeral spring channel. So there are large trees all around the top end, plenty of establish veg around the edge of it full of frogs and toads and birds and turtles and fish in it to eat all the critters. Between that and the bluebirds and the bats, the bugs don't stand a chance, haha!

Solo is also a confirmed all-terrain horse due to his years of eventing and climbing mountains, LOL, to him a "good" way includes "any way that is not fenced off." He is like a compass needle when it comes to water in summer!!

    1. Hee hee, I'll have to get better videos next time -- I did get some of him rolling, but you can't see much, I was too far away. I'm sure Encore would be in there too, but he is not yet allowed to be loose around the pond b/c there are heaps of pine trees there that I'm sure he would love to scratch all his skin off with!!!
