Discover Eventing

First off, I must say THANK YOU!!!!! to everyone who voted for us in the Life's Highway Fantasy Yard Art contest -- WE WON! Which means not only does Solo owe you dressage karma, I also owe you fantastic photos of Solo leaping flamingo shaped obstacles. Ahhh, the possibilities.

I also wanted to share with you a fantastic resource USEA has made available in the form of DiscoverEventing.com. Have you ever wondered just what the heck is three-day eventing? Needed a checklist for braiding or a first aid kit? Curious about what to expect at your first event? Well, it's all there and more in a well-organized introduction to the sport and all its rules and terms. I highly encourage giving it a good browse, especially if you are new to the sport or just curious about how it all works.  If there are any questions you can't get answered there, feel free to shoot them this way and I'll be glad to make up carefully research an answer for you!

I love the Discover Eventing site, though it tends to get me overexcited :)

  2. Hahaha, Jenn, I tend to get that way about any site that has pictures of horses on it. What can I say, I'm a cheap date.

  3. Hurray for the pink flamingo! Every once in awhile I go a little wild dreaming up fun, spooky jump ideas.

My favorite was a little filler we made for our Pony Club's collection...my dad and I bolted some thick layers of white styrofoam between two lengths of white vinyl fence board, then stuck a bunch of little hand-held whirly windmill things in the styrofoam :D

We have also had some fun "spook up the fences" sessions in our PC lessons before a rally or something. We rolled out big round tables on their sides, stuck big stuffed animals under fences, wrapped big strings of tissue paper around oxers so they fluttered in the slightest wind...it was a good time!

Can't wait to see Solo subjected to the flamingo.

  5. Ok, I have the most important question of all. When I register for my first USEA event, do I get a USEA eventing bumper sticker??

  6. Oooo, mm, I really like that filler idea! You could stick all kinds of things in there...like flamingos!!

Molly -- you get your bumper sticker when you pay your USEA member dues. Important to note: you do NOT have to be a full competing member until you go Novice. For BN and for unrec events, you can just do the subscribing member and you STILL get a bumper sticker and cool member card and magazine. You don't have to join USEF until you go Prelim.

  7. Aaaaaaaaaahhh! You just gave me a horrid flashback to the movie Pink Flamingos. If you haven't watched it, DON'T! It will make you wish you could pour hydrogen peroxide directly onto your brain...and your soul. *shudder* It is truly disgrossting!
But, congrats on winning what is surely one of the tackiest yard ornaments ever made! I agree, it would be WAY more fun as a horsey mental-hazzard-jumping prop.
