But before the question, I have some gleeful news to share:
I rode Encore last night in the arena and he was SOUND AND FRISKY AT W/T/C! In fact, after I got off, his leg was cleaner and tighter than when we started, which is what I was hoping would happen once he got moving. He kicked out with a giant buck picking up one canter, I think it was part exuberance and part annoyance at having just one leg wrapped in layers (I didn't want arena grit in the scab). I have many smiles, it feels good.
Now, on to your quiz. It's a simple one...or is it? These are pictures of my horses' feet. Both are back hooves on brown legs, both have been barefoot with the same farrier for roughly the same amount of time and both get the same management and same base feed. No hoof supplements. Size is irrelevant, the camera was just a different distance from the hoof. So -- which one is a shiny Quarter Horse and which one is a doe-eyed OTTB?
If you answer correctly, you win.....

A is Mr. Shiny and B is Doe-eyes...
ReplyDeleteWhat Anne said. :)
ReplyDeleteA is the TB, B is the QH.
ReplyDeleteA is QH, B is TB. (A look a lot like my QH's big ol'hooves!)
ReplyDeleteA is Solo, B is Encore. I think because A has squared off his toe and that is sometimes a sign of back issues. And B has the slightly contracted or narrower heels seen in OTTB's from shoeing too early (not that I know he was shod early, it's just a guess). PLUS B has what looks to be more of a calloused arena polished sole and I know Encore is in work.
ReplyDeleteI'm with with Anne, CFS, Sand, and Lisa.
ReplyDeleteShiny Solo on Left, Doe-Eyed Encore on the Right.
I am going against the grain here but my first thought before reading anyones comments were A. Encore and B. Solo. What do I win!!??!!
ReplyDeleteA is Solo B is Encore
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'm going to guess A-QH and B-OTTB (i'm looking at bars that look similar to my OTTB's )
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing A is Encore and B is Solo, just from the pancake shape of A.
ReplyDeleteA is Encore, B is Solo. I've seen a few OTTB's who come off the track after having been race shod and their feet spread out like pancakes, similar to picture A.
ReplyDeleteOooo, this is fun! I love reading everyone's thoughts....
ReplyDeleteDo you know what's funny, Laz literally has BOTH these feet-lol!!!!
ReplyDeleteBAHAHA, KES, wow, you win!
ReplyDeleteWhat?!! For reals!! What do I win, a new Right Hind hoof PUHLEASEEEEE
ReplyDeleteUhhh, fresh out of hooves. How about a sneezy cat? I've been trying to give him away for ten years.
ReplyDeleteI would like to say A is Encore and B is Solo, only because every quarter horse I've ever seen had little compact feet and most of the thoroughbreds I've seen had flatter wider feet naturally, unless they were cut and shoed to be smaller which isn't necessarily better for them anyway but I guess some farriers/people think there's an "ideal shape" that is the same for every horse (incorrect!).
ReplyDeleteI really don't know because I've never had any horse feet of my own to take care of (boo), but after reading everyone else's answers I'm going with A = Encore and B = Solo. Waiting with bated breath! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou will all get your answer either Sunday evening or Monday -- I am swamped today trying to get out of town!! All I will tell you right now is....some people are right and some people are wrong. :-D
